FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AUTOMEG/SUBMEG
Q. Can the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG be by-passed in the event of an emergency?
A. Yes. An emergency by-pass switch is incorporated into the design of the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG.
Q. Can the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG be used with variable frequency drives (VFD) or solid state motor starters?
A. Yes. However a contactor must be used to isolate the motor windings from the solid state circuitry during the test cycle.
Q. Does the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG monitor the motor winding insulation while the motor is running?
A. No. The AUTOMEG/SUBMEG monitors the motor winding insulation only when the motor is NOT running. (Please see last question).
Q. Does the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG monitor the motor winding insulation continuously when the motor is NOT running?
A. No. The AUTOMEG/SUBMEG tests the insulation for only 10 seconds prior to starting.
Q. Does the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG inhibit the motor from starting when the low meg alarm is activated?
A. Yes. If that option is chosen.
Q. Can the circuitry of the insulation monitor be tested to insure reliability?
A. Yes. A confidence test is provided by a manual test button which allows the user to test the internal circuitry of the insulation monitor.
Q. Is the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG adaptable to telemetering?
A. Yes. A set of contacts are provided for external use.
Q. Is the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG available in various insulation trip values?
A. Yes. The AUTOMEG/SUBMEG is available in various trip values from one (1) megohm to ten (10) megohm.
Q. Does the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG indicate when the motor insulation is being tested?
A. Yes. A sunlight visible LED indicates when 500 volts DC is applied to the motor insulation.
Q. What type of equipment can the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG be used with?
A. The AUTOMEG/SUBMEG can be used to test all AC and DC motors and generators.
Q. Can the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG be retrofitted into existing control panels?
A. Yes. The AUTOMEG/SUBMEG can be retrofitted into existing control panels in less than one hour.
Q. Can the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG be operated on other than 120 volts AC?
A. Yes. The AUTOMEG/SUBMEG can be operated on 240VAC or 24VDC.
Q. Can the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG be used to monitor the idle motor continuously?
A. Yes. In certain circumstances the AUTOMEG/SUBMEG can be used to monitor the idle motor continuously.
